Mary Bearing Jesus // What This Priest Wants For Christmas (Audio Sermon)

Mary Bearing Jesus

Mary is the model disciple. Therefore, our imitation of her draws us into the most sublime and perfect imitation of our Saviour. The following sermon is based on Luke 1 and Hebrews 10:5-10. It is from the 4th Sunday of Advent, 2012.

Sermon:
What This Priest Wants For Christmas

AUDIO

INTRODUCTION:

Christmas is upon us. We have purchased our gifts. Everything is set. All we await is the day. Let the events unfold. The travel plans have been made: we arrive at our destinations. The food will be made: we will eat it. The gifts have been wrapped: we will open them. The stockings are hung: gifts will arrive. Christmas is upon us.

1ST POINT:

Let me tell you what I want for Christmas.

I want Jesus to come.

I want Jesus to come to me; I want Jesus to come to you.

I want Jesus to come to us like He came to Mary.

Jesus came to Mary by pouring on her the Holy Spirit.
I want Jesus to come to you and me by pouring on us His Holy Spirit.

Jesus came to Mary by entering into her very body.
I want Jesus to come to you and me by coming into our very bodies.

2ND POINT:

Let me tell you what else I want for Christmas.

I want to be like Mary.

I want you and me to be like Mary.

Mary was approached by God.
I want you and me to be approached by God.

Mary listened to what God had to say.
I want you and me to listen to what God has to say.

Mary was obedient to what God wanted of her.
I want you and me to be obedient to what God wants of us.

Mary had Jesus inside of her.
I want you and me to have Jesus inside of us.

Mary made haste to go and bring Jesus to the world.
I want you and me to make haste and bring Jesus to the world.

Mary spoke and people leaped for joy.
I want you and me to speak and people to leap for joy.

Mary’s entire life was wrapped up with Jesus.
I want your lives and my life to be wrapped up with Jesus.

If Jesus comes inside of us, and we become like Mary, we will do God’s will. Jesus always does God’s will. Mary always does God’s will. Both of them declare: “Behold, I come to do your will, O God.”

CONCLUSION:

Everybody has a list of things they want for Christmas. You have a list of things you want for Christmas. You are getting things for Christmas. Do yourself a favor: make a new list, put two things on the list, address it to God, and get ready to receive what you ask for. God, we want two things for Christmas: 1) We want Jesus to be in us, and 2) We want to be like Mary. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
